Light-gauge steel site cabins: how they differ and when they pay off
LGSF stands for light-gauge steel framing. Here is how a frame of cold-formed galvanised profiles differs from the familiar welded one, where it honestly wins, and where it loses.
What light-gauge steel framing is
Light-gauge steel framing (LGSF, known in Russian as ЛСТК) is a structural frame built from cold-formed galvanised profiles, typically 0.7 to 2 mm thick. The profiles are roll-formed in a factory to tight tolerances and assembled with bolts and self-drilling screws rather than welded on site.
A conventional site cabin is built differently: it has a welded frame of structural tube or plain rolled steel, with floor beams and corner posts 2–3 mm thick. In the INTERMODULE block container specifications this is exactly the case — 2 mm in the base series and up to 3–4 mm in the premium one.
How the two compare in practice

Where light-gauge steel genuinely wins
Corrosion. Zinc is applied at the mill across the whole profile, and at cut edges it partially self-heals the exposed steel. For wet rooms — showers, sanitary blocks, sites near water — this is a real advantage over painted rolled steel, which eventually needs touching up.
Thermal performance. A slotted thermal profile breaks the direct heat path through the metal. In an ordinary welded frame the post acts as a thermal bridge: frost outside, warmth inside, and the steel conducts the cold straight through. In Kazakhstan, with −40 °C winters, that is not a detail.
Weight and foundation. A lighter frame puts less load on the pad and can sometimes allow a simpler foundation. Crane lifts also cost less.
Where the conventional frame is the honest choice
If the cabin will be moved often. A construction site is a rough environment: sling lifts, gravel-road transport, installation that is not always careful. Thick rolled steel forgives that treatment; thin profiles do not — they have to be engineered for the specific loads.
If modules will be stacked. Multi-storey layouts and stacking depend on the load capacity of posts and corner fittings. A welded frame with 3–4 mm corner posts has that margin built in.
If you need a fast, off-the-shelf order. Standard series are produced on welded frames and are held in stock; a light-gauge build is a separate engineering project, which means a different lead time.
